Claritas Antique Buttons

The Buttons you see here were collected during our countries greatest depression and its struggle to survive two World Wars. People all over the country were suffering and had to find ways of making due with what they had. One such practice is evident by the button collections found in many households. Families were clothing their families by stripping off buttons and refurbishing old clothing. As time went on and the economy grew stronger the art of reusing old clothing gradually came to an end, and eventually the buttons were no longer collected that way, and finally they were put away for safe keeping. By photographing these buttons I am giving you a peek into a beautiful art form that could only be seen thru a jar in the back of your grandmothers closet.
