Fraser Scottish Clan's Castles: Beaufort, Fraser

Frasers around the world can enjoy unique gifts that celebrate their ancient Scottish Clan Fraser heritage and its history at Beaufort Castle and Castle Fraser in Scotland. Beaufort Castle is the traditional seat of the Lords Lovat of the Fraser Clan. The property was inherited by Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat (c.1667–1747), in 1699. Located near Beauly in Inverness-shire, northern Scotland, the current structure is a Baronial style mansion built in 1880, but incorporates older building work. There has been a castle on the site since the 12th century. 2. Castle Fraser, located near Kemnay in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, was the ancestral home of the Fraser clan from the 15th through 19th centuries. It was sold out of the family in 1921 following the 1897 death of the last male Fraser of the line. The current structure is one of the most elaborate Z-plan castles in Scotland and is among the largest of the “Castles of Mar”. It is typical of others in the area -- Midmar, Craigievar, Crathes and Glenbuchat as they all were designed by the Bell family of master masons. In normal times, Castle Fraser was open from Easter through October, and the gardens and grounds have been open year round. During the pandemic, hours may be different.
