Greeting cards have long been an integral part of society, connecting people on special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries. Receiving a greetings card makes us feel special and appreciated, no matter the occasion Cards have their roots in ancient cultures. Civilizations such as Egypt and China exchanged tokens around New Year's to ward off evil spirits and commemorate their society's new beginnings. Greeting cards have been an integral part of society for centuries, being associated with special occasions like Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and birthdays. With such a rich heritage comes the responsibility to ensure they remain relevant today. They have been around since ancient times, when people in China and Egypt wrote messages of good will on papyrus scrolls and sent them off to friends and family at the start or end of each year. In the Middle Ages, Europeans became fascinated with romantic love and used intricate handmade artworks to express their emotions. Around 1400 AD, German print pioneers started producing New Year cards out of woodcuts using a relief printing technique known as woodcuts.
