Merry Christmas

sometimes also called Pollyanna (after the novel), Kris Kindle or Kris Kringle, is the Christmas ceremony of anonymous exchange of gifts by a group of people. This ceremony is known as the Secret Santa in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, and the Chris Kindle in several other Commonwealth countries. Both names are acceptable in Australia or New Zealand. All of these names date back to traditional Christmas gift-giving characters: the American version of the name comes from Santa Claus, and Chris Kindle and Kris Kringle are a distorted form of the name of a German character (Christkind or "Baby Jesus") (in England, the traditional gift-giving character is it's Father Christmas Secret Santa is called both the ceremony itself and any of its participants. The purpose of the ceremony is to limit the size of the gifts. Because of this, this ceremony is often resorted to at work or in large families. In Brazil it is called Amigo Secreto, and in Spain and Hispanic Latin America it is called Amigo Invisible.
