Among our ancestors who added their signatures to the 1897 petition against American annexation of the Hawaiian Islands, whose signatures we have discovered so far, were Loke Kaʻilikea (wife of Antone V. Marciel, Sr.) in Hāna, Maui, Lydia Nahiwa (wife of John V. Marciel, Sr.) in Kohala ʻĀkau, Hawaiʻi, and Jane Lovstad (mother of Lydia Nahiwa) in Hāmākua, Hawaiʻi.
