A fisherman by trade, St. Andrew (1st century) was the very first of The Twelve to be called by Jesus to the Apostolate. For this reason, he is known as the Protoclete. His evangelical zeal manifested early and remained all his days. His first act after The Call was to share the Good News with his younger brother Simon who was to be renamed Peter by Christ. His last act was to preach the Gospel from the wooden X-shaped cross upon which he was tied until his death from dehydration and starvation to the crowd of bystanders at his martyrdom c. 70. + Feast: November 30
