The statue itself is 148 ft tall and stands on a stone base that is 150 feet tall reaching a total of 298 feet tall. She was created by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and given to the American people by the citizens of France. France admired America for its success in establishing a democratic government, abolishing slavery and for the country’s continued pursuit of liberty. The view includes Liberty erected on Bedloe's island, the New York Harbor with ships, Brooklyn, Manhattan and rivers extending into the distance.
