Tomtebo - Home of The Gnome

This store is all about expressing yourself through an innocent looking - and often brutally honest or even sarcastic - gnome or gnomette. I spent the first 20 years of my life in Scandinavia where gnomes (tomtar, nissar, hustomtar, tomtenissar) were pretty much an accepted part of life. It was folklore, but maybe just a little bit more. At least in some families... My grandmother claimed to be able to see these little guys but never told anyone - including me. My mother was the one person she confided in. Even in an area that was very accepting of unusual creatures she worried what people might think. She collected tomte-figurines and had them on display kind of like a form of companionship. They just belonged in her home. At Christmas the collection expanded by a lot. All the "Christmas Only" figurines took center stage all over her bookshelf. The original Elf On The Shelf? Anyway, I've been finding myself drawn back to my weird gnome roots and thought maybe there are others who share this obsession.
