Henry Payne is Pulitzer-Prize nominated cartoonist and writer for The Detroit News. His weekly “CAR-toon” – a humorous look at America’s car-crazy culture – runs on The News’ web site, detnews.com. Payne draws editorial cartoons for The News as well United Feature Syndicate in New York which distributes his work to 40 newspaper clients worldwide. He has been a runner-up for both the Pulitzer and Mencken awards. “Payne’s Sketchbook,” a daily blog where all of Payne’s work appears, can be found at HenryPayne.com. As a writer, Payne reports regularly on economic, consumer and environmental issues for National Review, The Wall Street Journal, The Weekly Standard magazine, and other outlets. Payne has published a collection of his work: “Payne & Ink: The Cartoons and Commentary of Henry Payne, 2000-2001.” He has also illustrated two children’s books for Random House: “Where did Daddy’s Hair Go?” (by Joe O’Connor), and Dr. Seuss’ “The Ear Book.” Born in 1962 in Charleston, West Virginia, Payne llives with wife, Talbot, and two children in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
