I've been a maker for as long as I can remember. As a kid I was always drawing, crafting and creating something. That carried through my working life: I spent years as a commercial artist and a window dresser. I also ran my own craft business, which taught me what makes a design appealing to the people who buy it. Surface pattern design brings all of those threads together, and it feels like the thing I've been working towards all along. Everything starts by hand. I draw in Adobe Fresco, paint with watercolour, or gathered items and then scan my artwork to build into repeating patterns. Keeping the hand-drawn wobble and watercolour texture gives each design warmth and personality that you can't get from a purely digital approach.
